Britt Lawlor reports that after a long winter we had a very busy opening weekend. It was great to see everyone back and enjoying themselves. We have a lot of great events scheduled and we will have a successful season.

Tournament

The 2014 Tournament schedule has been posted in the locker rooms and Pro Shop.

The season opening Ryder Cup will take place May 3rd. There will be a $40.00 entry fee.

The Men’s Member Guest date has not been decided but will be late September or early October.

Jim VonEschen and I have decided to make a change to the Men’s Club Championship qualifying process (Championship flight only). The Junior Club Championship will determine which junior members will be eligible to qualify for the Men’s Club Championship. The winner and runner-up in the junior tournament will be eligible to qualify. If the Club Champion from the previous year is a junior and places in the top three of the junior tournament the top three players will be eligible to qualify for the Men’s Club Championship.

Rules

The temporary construction fence on the 15th hole is a temporary obstruction. Relief for swing and stance.

The OB stakes on the 2nd hole will be moved at some point. This will make the interior OB less obtrusive.

Greens

Jim VonEschen and I were able to ride and walk most of the Golf Course earlier today. With the severe winter we have had the Golf Course is in very good shape. Bob Furchert and his crew have done a great job. We heard nothing but positive comments last weekend.

The new bunker machine has made a tremendous difference in the condition of all the sand traps.

This will be the first spring aeration with the new machinery. In the fall the greens were playable much more quickly and we are hoping for the same this spring.

The new collection areas we built last year have grown in beautifully. They have been recently cut and it adds a great look to those holes.

Ron Krawczyk states that the men’s locker room has new carpeting thanks to a donation by Michael Rau.  They have also installed a new television thanks to Ray Fell and Bob Rosenberg.  It has also been painted.  There is a new cleaning company and they seem to be doing a great job.

Millie Brown states that the new grill room is doing great.  They will be open by 7:30am each morning and won’t be open past 6pm unless there are special events going on.

Ray Fell states that in the grill room contract Gus will have to make special provisions if there are scheduled events to ensure that memberhas seating.  It will take Gus some time to get used to the member schedule to accommodate the golfers 1st, public 2nd.

Ray Fell also states that the awning will be up by May 1st for additional 4 or 5 tables.

Jimmy Von Eschen states that the members have to understand that the grill room has to be able to make a living out of it.  If public traffic helps it may also help the golf course.  The liquor license is expected in no later than Friday, April 11th.

Carol Cassel asks if the ladies locker room has been painted and was advised that it has been.

Jimmy Von Eschen asked Carol Cassel if they can coordinate a day to clean out the rear closet in the ladies locker room.

Ray Fell states that we will be advertising in the Southampton Press Western Edition.  He hopes that will bring in some new members.

Jimmy Von Eschen states the website is up.  Bellportgolfclub.com. It is not 100% functional at the moment.  He will send an email once the members can start using it.  Bob Furchert will be able to communicate with the members and the reservation system will be done on April 28th.

Ron Krawczyk reads a request from Horst Boettcher for a 4 month medical leave.  He recommends a pro-rated leave.  He also reads a request for a medical leave and refund for Margaret Bermel.  Request is approved for a refund of all but a $500.00 deposits towards her next year’s membership.

6:36pm meeting adjourned.
