Chairman Report, presented by Brit Lawlor

Brit begins the meeting at 6pm and welcomes all those in attendance. Brit congratulates Mayor Veitch on her recent election victory and gives her the floor to speak about the Purple Horse Assessment that was conducted.

Mayor’s Report, presented by Maureen Veitch

Maureen begins by saying that there are copies of the report in the Pro Shop and on both the Village and Golf Club’s website. She states that these are thoughts and recommendations from Purple Horse and does not necessarily represent what the Village will do. Mayor Veitch states that Purple Horse (PH) has worked with 153 municipal courses in the past and spoke with tennis members, golfers and residents to come up with their recommendations. With the recommendations for both tennis and golf pushing roughly $12,000,000, Maureen says that the projects will be done in phases with the Village already having discussions about how we would finance some of it. There will be a comment period from now until July 15th in which you can email the Mayor and give your feedback of the report.

Maureen says that the she and the village board didn’t jump right into the report this Spring was that she believed a Mayor should see something through. And with the election in June, she didn’t believe the timing was right. Mayor Veitch says that she is looking forward to seeing the projects get done over these next four years. Brit also states that Maureen has been working hard on this for the last 8 months and we are excited to finally release it to you, the membership.

Deputy Chairman Report, presented by Ron Krawczyk

Nothing to report. Ron says that it is hot, stay cool out there on the course.

Greens Report, presented by Joe Dabrowski

Joe mentions that Chris Johnson is not here tonight but him and his crew are out trying to keep up with hand watering and some tennis repairs. Joe continues, the Spring has been wet and now we are in a heat wave, which Joe mentions is a deadly combination for grass. Joe states that Chris is trying to keep up with spraying in order to help prevent/fight diseases that are associated with hot and wet conditions.

Looking at next year’s capital assessment projects, Joe asks everybody to send any suggestions that they have to the respective commission member. So far, he and the commission are looking at basic tree removal and a natural cart path option.

Handicap/Capital Assessment, presented by Kevin Lauretti

Nothing to report. Kevin says that they will look through Purple Horse report and go from there. Mimics what Joe states about capital assessment.

Director of Golf Report, presented by Jim Von Eschen

Jimmy states that the last couple of weeks, we have seen some tees in the fairways – the Pro Shop has been calling this tee the “Short Course” or “Family Tees”. Jimmy continues, saying that we have developed these tees over the last couple of seasons and we have had great feedback. With the help of Bill Anderson, we are looking to get it rated so people can post scores from these tees. Jimmy says that the tees can’t be out there full time due to maintenance issues but suggests a plate in the ground like Knollwood or some other local courses have. The short course plays roughly 4100 – 4200 yards, with some thought to be had in regard to the Par 3 teeing areas but again, feedback has been great.

On a different note, Jimmy says that the weather has been challenging to start the season, especially when it has come to some of the 1-day events. With the challenging weather, Jimmy says that we are still up in revenue from this time last season.

Comments from the Crowd

Sherry Binnington – Sherry says that she is excited about the short course that has been used from time to time this season. She says that being in her 80s and still playing from the forward tees, she doesn’t have the chance to reach the green in regulation. She has heard great things about this short course. Jimmy Von Eschen states that nobody should be embarrassed about playing a shorter golf course and he explains that those individuals who currently play the forward tees have nowhere to move up (back tees can go to back/middle tees, middle tees can go to middle/forward tees, etc). The short course gives some players another option and a chance to hit more greens in regulation. No shame in moving up a set of tees.

Bob Scalia – Mr. Scalia asks for an update on the Bishop Ice House. Jim Von Eschen says that he is meeting with Jason Crane tomorrow. Jason knows it is on the list and Bob Scalia just says he is reminding more than anything. Jimmy promises that it will be done before the Summer’s end.

Meeting officially ends at 6:13PM
