Commissioner’s reports

Ed Santalone/ no report

Millie Brown/ no report

Carol Cassel/ Our “Nine and Dine” went wonderfully. I want to thank Ed Santalone he made the night. Thank you Eddie. It was a great success and our next one will be July 23rd.

Brit Lawlor/ Golf Commission 6-3-2015

Tournaments

Governor’s Cup winners are D flight Mike Mucci and Vito Aniello, C flight John Stravinsky and Kevin Sullivan, B flight Bobbie Bauer and Lee Redvanly, A flight Bill Hunter and Brit Lawlor.

Men’s senior club championship matches have begun and the first round needs to be completed by June 10th.

Greens committee

The greens have come back nicely and are playing much firmer. Greens speed has to be managed conservatively until the health of the turf is better.

The bunkers are in very good shape. The changes in equipment and frequency of grooming have made a great difference. This is very noticeable to everyone.

Trimming in the tree lines was begun this afternoon.

We will be verti draining on June 11th. Greg and Chris will speak about this.

The major tree removal project has been postponed until the fall. This project will require shutting down 3 or 4 holes while the machinery is on the property. Parklands manpower would be stretched thin at this time of year also. It just makes more sense to do this work later in the year.

Jim Von Eschen

The Nine and Dine was a great success thank you Carol and Florence. The next one will be in the Grill Room with Gus. There will be more food. We are hoping for a great turnout again.

Carol/ Gus is really giving us a great deal and I want to thank him.

Jim/ US Open tournament is coming up.

The Presidents cup will be held on Saturday 6/27 and Sunday 6/28. Scoring will be individual Stableford, flighted 100% handicap.

Senior Club Championship has begun as Brit said 1st round matches have to be completed by June 9th.

The Men’s Club has been getting a great turnout.

The ladies have had bad weather on Tuesdays. The Ladies will stay at 9:00Am for now.

Greg Fox

Greens will be double cut tomorrow for the 1st time.

We will be top dressing again Friday. We will also double cut Saturday and see how they respond.

Ed Santalone/ this won’t jeopardize what we have already done

Greg/ no not at all. I’m comfortable with this. We will try to get a little more speed.

Brit/ Its noticeable on the double tier greens, since the renovation that’s as far back as I remember we have never had grass on the inclines. We were playing earlier today Joe and myself both commented that it is the first time we have played with these areas not being brown.

Greg/ the hand watering will help.  They need to be hand watered because they are all day sun.

Ed/ From the Tee boxes it looks very impressive.

Greg/ We need some heat to get them really growing. Chris did the second application of quicksilver.

This is the last app. After this 1oz per application. The biggest thing is keeping the irrigation system off. We also need to keep getting sand into the greens.

Brit/ Greg, Chris and myself have spoken about this. In the past balls would always just plug into the greens. Now you can actually repair a ball mark. Now you have to properly strike an iron shot to stop it on the greens.

Greg/ we will be Verti draining next week it is a 10” tine we bought a set for the front nine and the back nine. This enables drainage and air in and out by the end of the season you will have white roots growing in these holes we would like to do this twice per year. It will not affect play of the greens very much. We will top dress immediately. It will not be seen in three days.

Ray Fell

At the last meeting the question was asked about the amount of Tennis members’ dues that goes toward Tennis Court maintenance. The amount is 2,800.00 that they use towards the golf course employees. For the 1st time in 26 years we have a net gain in membership. 44 have been lost due to attrition or medical leave with 47 new members. We are very excited about this positive step. Carol thank you for the great job with the Nine and Dine. This event is one of the things that will really help the club to become a club where members get to spend time together after a round of golf. So thank you very much, even with the bad weather it was a great success.

Leslie O Connor

As many of you know I am not a golfer but am always looking for ways to publicize the golf club the Advance has asked to cover an upcoming event possibly your Presidents Cup. They want to do more stories about the Village and I think we should reach out to them about covering this event.

Jim Von Eschen/ the Presidents Club would be a good tournament for that.

Leslie/ I think we should speak with the new reporter that will be handling the Village.

Brit/ that is a great idea if we could have them cover a few of the bigger tournaments throughout the year. Thank you very much Leslie.

Brit/ Any questions from the public?

John Daley/ My group has all made comments on the positive turnaround in the condition of the bunkers. Last year it had become a real pain in the “neck”. I do have one concern the bunker on 15 that bunker was made for the ball to drain into the bunker. Now we are putting fescue there somebody is going to break a leg. The slope is too steep to have people trying to look around there for a golf ball. I know you love your fescue but that’s not the spot for it.

Brit/ well I guess we can talk to Greg and Chris about it and see what they think. Maybe we can keep the fescue on the front or south face so looking from the tee you will still see the fescue.

John/ it should be mown closely

Brit/ it can’t be mown closely because of the incline.

John/ maybe weed wack it.

Brit/ it is an area to be avoided that is why it’s called a hazard. Sometimes you can play out of a hazard yes but sometimes you can’t.

John/ according to the USGA that is not part of the hazard.

Greg/ I will look into a hover mower to take care of this area. It’s about 800.00 maybe Parkland will pick up the cost.

Brit/ Now how do you mow it stand in the bunker and weed wack it.

Chris/Yes

Brit that makes a mess in the bunker.

Chris yes a big mess.

Tom Curley/ the nails are coming up on the bridge due to moisture or whatever. People are tripping on the bridge. They should have been screwed. Somebody is going to fall and get hurt. Something has to be done.

Brit/ we will have to talk to the village about it and see if they can get someone there to take a look at it

Tom/ also I understand that you want to wait until fall for the tree project. Wouldn’t’t it be beneficial to take down the trees now and do the stumps in the fall?

Brit/ we are going to try to take some of the trees down now but either way the holes we have to be closed for some period of time.

Tom/ They would not have to be closed that long.

Brit/ its 60 trees and we have prices from contractors to remove all 60 trees and stumps at one time. They will not mobilize twice at the price originally quoted. To do that we will have to get a different quote which will be a much higher price than we have been quoted now.

Greg/ there are 13 trees we will try to have removed right away. What Brits saying is true they will not come in twice at the current price. We will try to get three of the large dead trees that Ray is concerned with right away.

Brit/ any other questions

Tom/ yes what about the controversy in the grill room?

Brit/ Yes we are talking about it. We just got all of the information and will speak with the members involved. We will get the information together and deal with it.

Brit/ Any other questions. Motion to adjourn. Motion by Ed Santalone, second by Millie Brown meeting adjourned.
