Britt Lawlor reports on the Greens Committee

The Golf Course is in very good shape this spring. Member feedback has been very positive.

Greens aeration is well towards completion. Bob and his crew were out dawn to dusk yesterday to take advantage of the great weather. In spite of the spotty weather today they have accomplished as much as possible.

Bob has been able to work on drainage projects in some of the bunkers this spring. This should make a great difference in a few of the problem bunkers. Bob will go into more detail on the specifics of this.

We have discussed areas where we will be adding fescue and plan to move forward.

There is an issue with Members driving carts closely behind the 5th green. We are looking for a solution to this but would rather not add rope and stakes.

Rules Committee

The temporary construction fence on the 15th hole has been removed. Please do not play your ball out of the lateral hazard on south side of the 15th hole. This is deemed to be an Environmentally-Sensitive Area because of new grasses that have been planted by the Army Core of Engineers.  If the ball is found in or if it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found is in an ESA defined lateral water hazard, the player MUST, under penalty of one stroke, proceed under rule 26-1.

Tournament Committee

Saturday May 3rd the season opening Ryder Cup was held. In a hard fought battle Brian Donlan’s White team was victorious over Jim VonEschen’s Black team. Brian’s team played great throughout their lineup and in spite of the Black team’s positive attitude the Donlan team won again.

Saturday May 10th we held the MGA Two man team qualifier. The winners Bill Hope and Matt Kloss will advance to the sectional qualifier at Hempstead Country Club. It was great to see Bill and Matt win, both are Associate A members in their second season at Bellport.

Both the Men’s club and Ladies club will be playing weekly for the rest of the season. Jim and his staff will now be running the Ladies club Tuesday event. It will now be open to all of our woman membership. Let’s hope we get a great turnout for both clubs this year.

The Governor’s Cup will be taking place May 23th and 24th . This is a two person combined Stableford scoring for 36 holes. The Tournament is handicapped at 80%. It will be played from the Blue and Red tees only. A and B members are eligible. Men and Women may combine to form a team.

The Men’s Senior Club Championship will be played through the month of June. All male members over the age of 50 are eligible. The format is match play with no strokes once brackets are determined all matches will be played from the Blue Tees. There will be 8 members per flight.

The date for the Men’s Member Guest has been set for Friday September 26th. This is always a great event. We are discussing ideas for a new format. Peters on the Green is looking forward to hosting the day. Let’s all try to make sure we have a solid turn out.

Website

The website Bellport Golf Club website is up and running. Members can register and have access to some great information.

Ed Santalone acknowledges new nets for the practice area and thanks all the staff that assisted in getting them up.

Bob Furchert states that Brit covered most.  There will be sand added to the 10th hole bunker.  And there will be flowers planted next week.

Jimmy Dowd states that there is an area at the 16th hole that is supposed to be out of bounds. The grass is currently being cut and it shouldn’t be.  Bob Furchert will advise his employees.

Ron Krawczyk advises that we do not have any correspondence.

Dorothy Terwilliger advises that she won’t be running again and thanks the board and the employees for their dedication.  She truly appreciates it.
