Bellport Golf Club Course maintenance

Dear Fellow Members,

If you’ve been fortunate to have finally been out on the course you certainly noticed that this past winter has left more than a few scars.

We have ice and snow damage in our rough, fairways and greens as do most of the courses in the Metro area.  In general our greens are in pretty good shape. There is widespread damage to the rough and a few fairways have extensive damage such as #s 2, 8 and 18.  Sunshine and warmer temperatures will help but it won’t be enough to heal the damage. Greg needs to get seed into the turf immediately. We will have a slice seeder for the fairways here ASAP. Fertilization has begun earlier than normally acceptable.

As mentioned, there are some areas on the course that require more work than others.  Greg’s goal is to get our course in the best possible condition.  Please be patient while he and his crew do their job.  There is so much work to be done out there in addition to what has been mentioned above and it is just within the last few weeks that they have been able to get out there and begin the work.  The more we yield to them now the sooner they can get back to their normal maintenance schedules.

Thank you for your patience.

Respectfully,

The Golf Commission
